In The Round Exhibition

In the Round Poster

The In The Round Exhibition is now open and runs until 24th March, at St Mary’s Chapel in Andover. See the CAS website for directions – chapelartsstudios.co.uk

Celebrating 10 years of CAS (Chapel Arts Studios), the exhibition consists of work by CAS Associate Artists, including my photographic piece The Distance Between Us:

The Distance Between Us_James Aldridge

‘The Distance Between Us is a photographic image formed by layering two other photographs together. The first shows James sitting in Savernake Forest, Wiltshire, wearing a deer mask he made, in response to deer watching and finding a deer skull. James has returned to the site of where he last saw the deer. The second image was taken by James using a camera trap, also in Savernake Forest, and shows a Fallow Deer.

This piece explores the distance that lies between humans in Western Societies and the other beings with which we share our world. From young children we are taught to leave our embodied, imaginative and emotional responses behind and to learn through receiving inherited facts and concepts. We are distanced from ‘Nature’, which we place at a distance, through our language and perceptions, with consequences for our own wellbeing, and the ecological systems of which we are a part.’
